I have been associated with ABG products for as long as I can remember. Probably the first recollection would be my mother packing school lunch for me in a Freshwrapp. Then I saw the ABG logo on the Ultratech cement sacks when our new house was being constructed. With time ABG became a part of our lives without trumpeting. You need clothes- Go to India’s largest fashion company Pantaloons, You need to call- you have India’s largest telecom network Vodafone Idea, You need news car tyres- Birla carbon is there, you need insurance or a loan- Aditya Birla Capital Limited is there and so many more brands and products.
ABG has touched millions of lives not only through their products but has also recognized it as their responsibility to serve the society at large. The group is known for providing a healthy and growth-oriented work environment to 120000+ employees. Operating in 35+ countries, they have build many libraries, institutions, planetariums, university, over 20 hospitals, 50+ schools and 15 temples. This massive empire is not just a successful business conglomerate but a socially responsible citizen too.
How I made an impact?
-Himanshu Verma, Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi
Till the end of my schooling, I lived in a bubble. I was the brightest in my school and all the teachers knew me. In Class 12th boards, I scored the highest in my small town-Nabha in Punjab. Then I shifted to Delhi for my graduation and Pop! I am out of the bubble. Competition, so much of it! People conversing in English like they are reading it from a paper, People with national and international achievements, Olympiad winners, People my age with start-ups and funding their education at their own, People doing and excelling in things I never even heard of in my hometown.
How do I compete with them? I roamed around like a clueless zombie. I came from a humble background, studied in a school with no riches in education and extra-curricular, but that shouldn’t hold me back. I knew I had potential; I just needed some extra work. I started working on my communication skills, joined Toastmasters, worked on my confidence and presentation, and started looking for opportunities and Delhi had a lot to offer.
I joined NSS and the Fine arts society of my college. I co-founded Nature’s Club in my college, did a freelancing job for a few weeks and most importantly, I became a Core Team member of Centennial Celebrations of the college. I was responsible for leading a team of 100 students organising a year-long celebration for the completion of 100 years of the college and the celebrations ended with seven students from the college being invited to The Rashtrapati Bhawan by the former President of India Sh. Pranab Mukherjee for an event and lunch and I am proud to say I was one of the students invited and was awarded the Best ECA Student of the batch by the end of my graduation.
I started preparing for CAT and scored well in the second attempt and now I am the first person from my hometown to get into an IIM. I have found myself and there’s no stopping me now.
